Same-sex couples may face legal hurdles to get on birth records

Partners in same-sex marriages in Maryland may choose to each keep their pre-wedding surname, or they may opt to combine them as one couple in Ohio did to create a new name. With more same-sex couples having children, many of them want their offspring to bear this new family moniker on a birth certificate that also lists both spouses as the baby's parents. The Ohio couple, however, live in a state which does not entitle gay and lesbian marrieds to both be included on birth certificates.

John Cleese facing monumental alimony payments

Maryland fans of John Cleese, well known for his "Monty Python" successes as well as many other roles, may be surprised to learn that the comedian is required to pay his most recent ex-wife between $23 and $24 million as a result of their divorce decree. Cleese launched a one-man show called "The Alimony Tour" a few years ago in a tongue-in-cheek reference to his nearly $1 million per year alimony payments, and continues to perform.

Another "Real Housewives" split

Maryland viewers of the Bravo franchise "Real Housewives" have seen their fair share of splits over the years. Adrienne Maloof, Taylor Armstrong, Porsha Stewart, Bethenny Frankel, NeNe Leakes and Vicki Gunvalson are a few of the franchise's stars who have started the divorce process over the last few years. Now, Ramona Singer's divorce from husband Mario will add to the list of housewives who have divorced.
